For starters, they're the best trained in the business. They have an in-depth appreciation of wine and undertake professional wine exams, awarded by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), to ensure that you get the right answers to help you make the right and most satisfying choices. This year, an impressive seven of our managers picked up scholarships at the WSET awards.

"Another stunning wine from Ribera del Duero, one of my favourite regions of Spain, which is gaining cult status and usually has prices to match. This fine example is aged in both French and American oak for 12 months and offers a beautiful nose of dark fruits, smoke and pencil shavings. The palate is a real mouthful, rich and powerful yet beautifully balanced with a silky smooth texture. At this price, it offers great value and has the potential to age, if you can bring yourself to do such a thing. Personally, I don't think I could leave it alone... "

"The Marques de Riscal Reserva is a classic example of a standout Rioja at an affordable price. A seductive nose of ripe strawberries wonderfully accompanied by sweet vanilla conjures up memories of idyllic summer evenings. The palate follows on beautifully with the barrel ageing offering a complex cedar backdrop to the fresh strawberry fruit balanced by soft rounded tannins with a pleasant lightness. While the finish lingers on, memories of all the great occasions whereby the Riscal Reserva has been the soundtrack come flooding back, whether it be accompanying a succulent roast Lamb or enjoyed with friends! "
