  • A bottle of Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2004 Cru Classé, Pauillac - Majestic Wine

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2004 Cru Classé, Pauillac

The Cabernet content here, some 65%, asserts itself well though conversely there is a lush, openness on the mid-palate. This looks to have all the right components and balance to knit very well in time, and will be a fine wine in the vintage.

"I have found that most of the 2004's I have tried, have been claret drinkers delights. This is no exception! Once you get past the wonderful deep purple colour of the wine, you are entranced by the beguiling nose of blackcurrants, licorice, eucalyptus, bitter chocolate and truffles. This monstrous wine is unbelievably soft and delicate in the mouth and offers real drinking pleasure. Drink it now, or stash it in the cellar for another 5 – 10 years."

  • A bottle of Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 Henschke, Eden Valley - Majestic Wine

Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 Henschke, Eden Valley

Ripe black fruits are supported by a wonderfully broad sweep of spices, cedar and leather, with distinctive hints of eucalyptus and mint. Very long and harmonious and nothing less than superb.

"From one of the most prestigious estates in Australia, the 2003 Cyril Henschke lives up to the hype. Made from 91% Cabernet and 9% Merlot, the nose offers up ripe aromas of luscious black fruits, minty eucalyptus, violets, blueberries and sweet oak. It has such a big personality and it delivers on all fronts. The palate is extraordinarily big, rich and round. The sweetness and ripeness of fruit provides real weight and depth in the mouth, and lingers on the palate for a good 45 seconds or so. In a word, superb! Whilst it is providing sensational drinking pleasure now, it is a wine that will reward those who can avoid temptation and stash it away in the cellar for another 10 years."

"A wonderfully aromatic nose of peaches, apricots, rose water, apple peel, a delicate whiff of dessicated coconut and a sensational mineral backbone. As one would expect, there is a spectacular white pepper and ginger spiciness that adds to its charm. Rolling over seamlessly onto the palate, it reveals more of the same with a slightly off dry finish that reveals a real tinned pineapple, and lavender honey quality. Superbly long and beautifully structured."

"A complex and racy nose of green fruits, apples, grapefruit and blood oranges jump out of the glass to present a refreshing and unexpectedly elegant and minerally bouquet. This is not archetypal Californian Chardonnay, but soft, sophisticated and fabulously complex. The richness of the fruit is complimented by a steely minerality and a genuine richness provided by the careful oak ageing and extended time on its lees."

"Cask 23 is made only in the most exceptional vintages, from a blend of the finest parcels from the Fay and S.L.V. vineyards. It's perhaps the most modern in style, with a rich, complex nose of sweet cassis, Black Forest gateau, cooked strawberries, tobacco, nutmeg, cinnamon and violets. Its big, sweet, luscious nature is even more pronounced in the mouth through the rich chocolate and berry-infused palate. A wonderfully rich, silky mouthfeel is supported by fine grained tannins and a long, lingering finish. Keep for 15-20 years."

"The 2006 S.L.V. displays a heavenly blackberry, cassis, cherry, cigar-box and eucalyptus nose, with subtle touches of truffles. In the mouth, cocoa, espresso and vanilla blend harmoniously with dark berry fruits and savoury flavours spilling over from the nose. Long, luscious and very silky, this will delight even the most committed Francophile."

"The Fay vineyard was planted in 1961 and acquired by SLWC in 1986. The vines were largely replanted in the mid 90s and are now in their prime, producing superb Cabernet fruit. On the nose, delicate violet aromas invigorate the bouquet of cherries, espresso, chocolate, truffles and underlying core of sweet cassis fruit. The rich and luscious palate displays a vast array of savoury notes, backed up by bitter chocolate, plum and cassis decadence. Long and silky smooth in the mouth, it’s drinking wonderfully now but will reward anyone with 10-15 years of patience."

"Regarded as one of the finest sites in Puligny Montrachet, 'Les Pucelles' neighbours the Grand Crus of Batard and Bienvenues. Similar in style to its big brothers, the 2007 'Les Pucelles' from Jomain is superb. A powerful nose of citrus peel, buttered toast, toasted hazelnuts and lemon curd. Gob-smackingly gorgeous, it is rich and powerful but maintains a wonderful elegance due to the fantastic mineral / citrus backbone. Sensational!!"

"A blend of Chardonnay and Grechetto and aged in French oak, Antinori's Cervaro is the benchmark for white wines of this style in the Umbria region. The 2007 Cervaro has a rich 'Burgundian' nose of vanilla, French toast, baked apples, peaches and cinnamon spice. The palate is exceptionally rich and textured, with stone fruits, creme brulee and sweet toasty oak. The finish is long and luscious, harmonised by palate cleansing acidity."
